she hailed. got into the cab. "Geylang East please." she half mumbled tO herself. it was the usual. same old. den settled comfortably against the seat staring out the window. "ding dong." her handphone message tone beeped against the leather of her bag. every zip retracted seemed likable to unwinding her thoughts slowly.
maybe cos she was alone this time. her mind seemingly alert.
"Which way ms?" his voice interrupted.
"PIE den kallang way thanks." she stopped the unzipping.
perhaps it was time to stop n think. free herself from this world of connectivity where the handphone and internet seemed to link anyone to everyone. free from this dependence and indispensability on such gadgets just momentarily.
it was this moment she found her solitude. her own moment to remember and relive. all the bits and pieces chucked away to that stray corner of her mind.
the cab cruised along that same old route.
the road unchanged. and the memories came flooding back.
time was shortlived but nevertheless sweet. how they used to hold hands. the way they first touched. their little fingers entwined like little kids. their feelings well-endowed. but never disrupted by any constant messaging or calls. the occasional blushes, hot flushes and little pecks. walks round the void decks. totally unromantic but so extremely cute. how endearing when he first expressed his affection with that little wild flower.
maybe it was inevitable and for the best. tt they stopped.
cos only den will the purity and innocence be forever locked in her heart. she knows.
and that little tear. falls effortlessly down.
